Mamma Mia Continues its Dazzling Run At The Novello Theatre

Mamma Mia, the musical featuring some of the smashing ABBA hits continues to run at the Novello Theatre London. The musical based on Catherine Johnson’s story is running at the Novello Theatre since 2012 following transfer from Prince of Wales Theatre London where it had enjoyed five years of spectacular run. The show features music and lyrics by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus while some of its songs are from Stig Anderson.

The show has been directed by Phyllida Lloyd. The ensemble cast of the show includes Helen Hobson (Donna Sheridan), Joanna Monro (Rosie), Kim Ismay (Tanya), Gary Milner (Sam Carmichael), Neil Roberts (Harry Bright), James Gaddas (Bill Austin), Charlotte Wakefield (Sophie Sheridan), Andreas Gyllander (Sky), Abiola Ogunbiyi (Ali), Tasha Taylor Johnson (Lisa), Steven Oliver (Pepper), Liam Doyle (Eddie).

The show has designs from Mark Thompson, lighting by Howard Harrison and choreography by Anthony Van Laast. The Mamma Mia show London has been produced by Judy Craymer, Richard East and Björn Ulvaeus for Littlestar in association with Universal.

Along with the title track, some of the greatest hits of the band include Does Your Mother Know, Dancing Queen, Super Trouper, Take A Chance On Me. The piece takes audiences for a tour to the breathtaking islands of Greece where a mother daughter duo is caught in the moments of their past.

An award winning classic, the piece today lists among one of the longest running West End shows. It runs for 2 hours 30 minutes at the Monday to Saturday at 19:45 and matinees at 15:00 on Thursday and Saturday.

Novello Theatre London Exemplifying Grandeur, Redefining Theatre

One of the grand West End Theatres, Novello is located in Aldwych in the City of Westminster London. It was an era of theatres and many such grand entertainment venues were coming up in London. One trend that was followed those days was the edifices being built as twin. Novello Theatre was too built as a pair with the Aldwych Theatre and W.G.R. Sprague, the man who excelled in the art of designing the pairs, was called for designing these two as well.

When the venue opened it on 22^nd May 1905, it was called the Waldorf Theatre. In 1909, the house was renamed as the Strand Theatre and once more in 1911when it was called the Whitney Theatre. It was rechristened as the Strand Theatre in 1913 before being given its current name in 2005 by its present owners. Its present name has been in honour of Ivor Novello, the multi-talented theatre star of the twentieth century, who resided in one of the flats above the venue from 1913 until his death in 1951.
