Novello Theatre is all set to welcome the new cast for Mamma Mia

Cast of the Mamma Mia London running at the Novello Theatre is to undergo cast change from 8th June 2013 onwards. The new cast will feature Helen Hobson (Donna Sheridan), Joanna Monro (Rosie), Kim Ismay (Tanya), Gary Milner (Sam Carmichael), Neil Roberts (Harry Bright), James Gaddas (Bill Austin), Charlotte Wakefield (Sophie Sheridan), Andreas Gyllander (Sky), Abiola Ogunbiyi (Ali), Tasha Taylor Johnson (Lisa), Steven Oliver (Pepper) and Liam Doyle (Eddie).

Novello Theatre is having a record setting time while staging performances of the ABBA classic Mamma Mia. The musical has lyrics and music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus.The musical has been written by Catherine Johnson and is directed by Phyllida Lloyd. It takes audiences to one of the picturesque islands of Greece. Here a young girl Sophie is alls et for her marriage with boyfriend Sky. The musical takes an interesting turn with revelation about three men one among them happens to be the girl’s father is made. All her of them have arrived for the wedding but neither her mother Donna nor Sophie till the last moment has any clue about who is her actual father is? A timeless classic, Mamma Mia show London is one of the longest running West End musicals.

Along with the internationally popular title track Mamma Mia, other ABBA classics that are part of the show include Does Your Mother Know, Dancing Queen, Super Trouper and Take A Chance On Me.

Mamma Mia continues spectacular run at the novello theatre london

Mamma Mia is the musical that is for everyone who shares a love for their family. Currently in its fourteenth year, the show has witnessed an unparallel success during its run at the various West End theatre venues. It was in 1999 when it opened at the Prince Edward Theatre, following a triumph of five years in 2004 it was transferred to the Prince of Wales Theatre. It reopened at its present venue in September 2012.

 Mamma Mia London show is accompanied by some outstanding ABBA classics. Along with the title track Mamma Mia, other mesmerizing ABBA numbers that are a part of the show include Does Your Mother Know, Dancing Queen, Super Trouper and Take A Chance On Me. The story of Mamma Mia features a mother and a daughter who are disturbed because of their past events. It was the three men whom the mother Donna has shared serious relations at point of her life who are the reason of these disturbances.

 The daughter Sophie on the eve of her marriage comes to know about these three men one among them could be her probable father. Being excited with the news, she send out invitations to all three of them and to the surprise of the mother and the daughter, all three of them arrive for the wedding. The musical is a Phyllida Lloyd directorial and has been recipient of numerous awards. The hilarious comedy takes audiences for a tour to the breathtaking island in Greece and is accompanied by mesmerizing ABBA numbers.

Novello Theatre – creating history since inception

The Novello Theatre London that opened on 22nd May 1905 was designed by notable architect of the time, W.G.R. Sprague. At the time of its opening, it was called the Waldorf Theatre and was built as a twin to the Aldwych Theatre that was also designed by Sprague. The first owners of the venue were Shubert brothers of America and it was their maiden endeavour to the theatre world in Europe. The Novello Theatre witnessed its first success in 1913 with hosting of the Anglo Chinese play Mr Wu.

Mathesan Lang who later on went to own the Novello theatre gave one of his most successful performances in Mr Wu. Later on when he went on to write his memoirs, he named it Mr Wu looks back. After going through numerous name changes since the beginning, the venue was given its current name, the Novello Theatre by its present owners after Ivor Novello who once stayed in one of the flats above the venue. Some of the notable shows that have been hosted here include Arsenic and Old Lace,   A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum Sailor and Beware!

The currently running show at the Novello Theatre London is ABBA classic Mamma Mia. The musical has been directed by Phyllida Lloyd and is based on Catherine Johnson’s story. It is a picturesque island of Greece where the story takes place. Along with the title track, the musical features some of the greatest ABBA hits. The show is suitable for audiences of all genres and is ideal to cherish those strong ties that we share with our families.

Mamma Mia to Undergo the Biggest Cast Change in its History

Mamma Mia running at the Novello Theatre London is to undergo the biggest cast change this June ever since the musical made its West End debut in 1999. 24 of the existing 33 member cast will be replaced on 10th June 2013.

Donna Sheridan will be played by Dianne Pilkington whose latest West End credits include Master Class at the Vaudeville Theatre, The 39 Steps at the Criterion and Galinda in Wicked that she has been portraying for past three years that is running at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. Prior to this, she has also played Amalia in She Loves Me by the Chichester Festival Theatre production. She also made appearance in Tom Hooper’s film Les Miserables.

From 10th June onwards, the cast will also be joined by Jane Milligan who will portray Rosie, Richard Trinder as Sam, Emma Crossley as Sophie Sheridan, Oliver Tilney playing Sky, Ali by Jessica Daley, Lisa as Stephine Clift, Pepper as Dickie Wood while Eddie will be played by Dan Krikler. Tanya will continue to be portrayed by Kim Ismay, Harry Bright as Neil Roberts and Bill Austin by James Gaddas. Claire Poyzer however will play Donna Sheridan on certain performances.

Mamma Mia London has made its West End debut at the Prince Edward Theatre on 6th April 1999. After enjoying five years of spectacular run, the musical was transferred to the Prince of Wales Theater. Following eight years of outstanding run, the musical re-opened at the Novello Theatre on 6th April 1999. The show continues its spell binding run after recently celebrating its 14th birthday at the venue.
